Marks & Spencer has resumed its click and collect service, 15 weeks after it fell victim to a cyber-attack earlier this year. The retailer was forced to halt some of its online order services following the highly publicised incident in April, which disrupted both click and collect and home delivery options, frustrating thousands of customers nationwide.
In July, M&S chief executive Stuart Machin expressed hope to investors that the company would be over the worst of the disruption by August. The retailer estimates the cyber-attack may reduce profits for the current year by around £300 million, a significant hit amid a challenging retail environment.
The company has since invested in enhanced cybersecurity measures, partnering with leading experts to strengthen its digital infrastructure and prevent future breaches. The attack underscores the increasing cyber threats facing retailers as online shopping continues to grow post-pandemic.
Four people have been arrested in connection with the attack, but have since been released on bail as investigations continue.
