John Pincott, Managing Director Europe, Shopatron believes that this year we will see an increased moved to click-and-collect from shoppers. The rise in click-and-collect is also expected with the early sales starting tomorrow, please find a comment from John below:

The predicted rise in sales for grocery retailers today, now named ‘Mayhem Monday’ comes as no surprise. With Christmas just three days away, it is now peak time to purchase fresh goods. However, a break from Christmas food shopping tradition is expected with more shoppers than ever likely to take advantage of click-and-collect for their big Christmas food shops.

Trust in same-day click-and-collect is rising amongst shoppers and is eliminating the worry of battling through the crowds only to find that the item you are looking for is out of stock.  The rising popularity of same-day or one-hour click-and-collect options also means that we can now expect further sales peaks driven by earlier than usual seasonal sales starting tomorrow.

The ability to collect products in store and purchase them online for collection not only eases the process for consumers, but it also encourages shoppers to visit local stores where they make additional purchases. Retailers who are able to show online exactly which items are available in each store during the early sales will rise to the top, because it will give shoppers the extra confidence they need to visit their town centre at peak season to get exactly the item they need.
