Lidl commits £30bn to British food and farming sector

Lidl GB has announced plans to invest £30 billion in the British food and farming industry between 2025 and 2030, doubling its previous five-year commitment of £15 billion.

The investment aims to strengthen long-term partnerships with more than 650 British suppliers across key food categories including fruit, vegetables, meat and poultry. It is designed to support sustainable growth, enhance national food security and provide stability for UK farmers and producers.

The move includes several sustainability initiatives, such as achieving 100% LEAF Marque certification for all British fresh produce suppliers, funding water catchment projects through WRAP’s UK Food and Drink Pact Water Roadmap, and expanding Lidl’s Sustainable Beef Group, which is backed by £1.5 billion in investment.

Lidl GB Chief Commercial Officer Richard Bourns said the programme “places British food and farming at the heart of our growth plans.”

Food Security Minister Dame Angela Eagle described the investment as a “strong vote of confidence in the quality and reliability of British farming.”
