Aztec Label: committed to quality

Aztec Label secured its reputation for offering the finest quality, pricing and service to customers through a commitment to using the best equipment, materials and staff. Since the first labels came off its presses in 1993, founder and Managing Director Colin Le Gresley has insisted on the same attention to detail and rigorous quality control that ensures Aztec Label only ever delivers the best products and service.

“With more than 300 years of collective production and management experience, the knowledge levels of our staff stretch far beyond those of many other companies,” said Colin. “With our fully refurbished, 19,000 sq ft facility ideally located in the heart of the West Midlands, we proudly serve thousands of customers across the whole of the UK and beyond, using our experience and equipment to deliver on our pledge that no matter how large an order, you can rely on Aztec Label to fulfil any job, any size.”

Aztec Label enjoyed enormous growth since those first labels rolled off the press almost 30 years ago but is still a family-run business. “We take enormous pride in our valued staff, and believe that our experience has enabled us to form solid, longstanding relationships with external suppliers, bonds that enable us to ensure that we offer a superior product and service every single time,” said Colin.

Investing in technology, committed to quality

“At Aztec Label we operate a full quality control system for every stage of our operation, with rigorous testing and cross checks and full traceability on the key materials used,” explained Colin. “Our Kidderminster facility also has a full on-site plate making suite that ensures fast turnaround on orders. Our equipment, facilities, team and processes enable us to fulfil all jobs – even those urgent orders demanding same day delivery – without compromising on accuracy or quality.

“As part of this commitment to providing the best to our customers, we use the latest technology and equipment to ensure we deliver an efficient, fast and high-quality service,” he said. “That’s why we have recently installed two new Vectra ECTR turret rewinders from AB Graphic, to help boost productivity following increased customer demand. The turret rewinders, capable of delivering speedy and precise rewinding of standard self-adhesive labels, are the fourth and fifth such machines we now have on the factory floor, providing us with the flexibility to run any job on any available machine so we can continue to meet challenging lead times.”

Committed to sustainability

As a responsible business committed to sustainability, Aztec Label is consistently working to reduce its own carbon footprint. “This is not only being achieved through significant investment in energy-saving – and energy-producing – technology at our premises, but also through implementing new processes and systems that are delivering improvements across the business,” said Colin.

“At the same time, we have to balance this with the key demands our customers place on us, for quality and speed of delivery. To make sure we’re meeting those expectations, we’re always on the lookout for technological solutions that will help us to improve, and that’s why we decided to recently invest in Fujifilm’s Flenex FW water-washable plates.

“We achieve excellent plate washout in half the time with no sludge build up in the processor,” he said. “Platemaking is faster now, and there are far fewer plate failures.”

A Fujifilm C-Touch processor and new Fujifilm UV-LED JJ inks also form part of the investment, something Colin credits with further time savings to the platemaking process.

“We recognise that when it comes to sustainability, it isn’t just about delivering sustainable label products, but driving prepress and print operations in a sustainable way,” he said.
