Waitrose recalls protein pot over salmonella fears

Waitrose has issued an urgent recall of its Egg & Spinach Protein Pot (90g) due to concerns over possible salmonella contamination.

The recall applies to pots with use-by dates of 31 July and 1 August 2025, sold across stores in England. On Tuesday, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued a statement that confirmed Waitrose was recalling the popular products over salmonella concerns.

Notices have been displayed in all affected stores explaining the recall and the steps customers should take.

Salmonella symptoms usually appear six to 72 hours after infection and commonly include fever, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, headaches and muscle pain.

According to the FSA, anyone who has consumed the product and experiences symptoms should avoid contact with others and stay home from work, school, or childcare settings for at least 48 hours, to avoid passing it on to others.

The recall is precautionary, and no confirmed illnesses have been reported at this stage
