As well as a base label colour, images can include several spot colours or a four-colour process print. Laser marking adds the ability to add customised information like date codes or lot numbers at the time of packaging. For example, where a self-adhesive gold foil label is overprinted with spot and process colour and a date code marked during sealing, the Synrad CO2 laser ablates the ink away from the gold foil, leaving matching gold-coloured mark.
