Innovation at the heart of the show

Hailed as the UK’s largest annual event for the whole packaging supply chain, Packaging Innovations, Empack and Label&Print, returns to Birmingham’s NEC on February 28th and March 1st.
The two-day event will feature a free educational seminar programme with more than 20 hours’ CPD-accredited content. More than 300 exhibitors have signed up and more than 6,000 decision makers likely to attend.

Design and functionality
Innovative products, design and functionality are, as always, at the heart of the show. For instance, Jenton International will launch bandint® 340, its new banding system suitable for products up to 340mm wide. This will be demonstrated live on stand, alongside Jenton International’s aluminium packaging automation for fresh food.
Graphic Packaging International will launch IntegraflexTM, which incorporates the best features of a folding carton and flexible packaging for an effective on-the-go eating experience. The recyclable concept has the ability to stand on its own and is a great option for packaging hot snacks. Greenearth Food Packaging will present its new range of oven-proof, biodegradable ready meal containers made from paper pulp, available with lids and in various sizes and colours to enhance the aesthetics of the products.
Lageen Tubes will be launching its new digital decoration technology, offering a freedom for tube design. The new technology will be on display alongside the company’s large range of direct print plastic tubes solutions for the cosmetics, personal and hair care industries.
Kotkamillis will showcase its AEGLE™ range of Folding Boxboards for folding carton packaging and the ISLA™ range of Food Service Boards for disposable cups and plates. The company also plans to launch a range of water-based, dispersion coated barrier products that are easily recyclable and re-pulpable.
OAL will showcase APRIL EYE, an intelligent date code verification system set to cut food waste in the supply chain. Developed in partnership with the University of Lincoln in a retailer led initiative, APRIL EYE uses artificial intelligence to read back and verify date codes, preventing product recalls related to the incorrect application of date codes. By removing human error from the supply chain, APRIL EYE reduces food waste related to the incorrect date coding of products.
In addition to a packed showfloor, the Packaging Innovations conference programme will run across five seminar stages: The Industry Forum Stage, The Innovation Stage, The Label&Print Stage, The Ecopack Stage and The Packaging News Stage. The two-day educational agenda will feature major names, including Coca-Cola, Innocent, M&S, ASDA, Tesco, Co-op and Thorntons.
The new Innovation Zone will showcase the 10 most innovative exhibitor products and a selection of innovations from non-exhibitors.
The Ecopack Challenge will offer companies that are creating innovative and sustainable products the chance to win the opportunity to develop an idea with Marks & Spencer. The Dragons’ Den style session will see the four shortlisted companies demonstrating why they should be crowned champion.
