Offline coding specialist, PrintSafe, has supplied a second standalone carton coding system to fast-growing London-based company, Health Aid.
Health Aid is one of the UK’s premier manufacturers of nutritional supplements. Its portfolio of more than 500 products are sold in the UK and exported globally.
Of these 500 products, 450 are supplied in cartons. All of which are printed with the batch number and expiry date and most with date of manufacture.
Health Aid first purchased a carton coding system from PrintSafe in 2007 to handle increased throughput and to ensure high quality print. With sales growing rapidly, it recently purchased a second, updated system.
Anant Patel, General Manager, Health Aid said: “Having an offline coding system has given us big cost savings. Just as importantly, the printed code looks good and maintains the quality of our packaging. PrintSafe have always provided an excellent level of service so it was an easy decision to source the second machine from them.”
The new FORMAXX offline coding system, an updated version of the system installed in 2007, can code around 50% faster – up to 600 cartons per minute. The standalone machine feeds Health Aid’s cartons in their flat form past a thermal transfer printer that prints the batch and date information.
The FORMAXX’s flexibility means that it can be fitted with a choice of printers – inkjet, thermal inkjet, thermal transfer, laser – depending on packaging specifics and print requirements. Colin Hogg, PrintSafe Service Manager says: “We opted for thermal transfer because of the carton shape and the position of the print area. With modern thermal transfer technology, operators can pre-program the messages and the print quality is excellent.”
