Deliveroo has launched drone deliveries in Dublin, marking a major milestone for the food delivery giant. In partnership with global drone operator Manna, the trial aims to explore how aerial technology can improve delivery speed, sustainability, and reach.
Based in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, the test phase will serve customers within a 3km radius, offering dishes from local favourites including Musashi, WOWBurger, Boojum and Elephant & Castle. Orders could arrive in as little as three minutes, with drones bypassing traffic and cutting emissions.
Drones will launch from Manna’s local hub, flying at up to 80 km/h. Upon arrival, they hover and lower packages using a biodegradable tether, ensuring a seamless, contact-free drop-off. Customers validate their address via the app and receive real-time tracking updates.
Deliveroo says the pilot will assess how drone deliveries can complement its rider network, particularly in suburban and hard-to-reach locations. Plans are in place to expand into groceries and retail within six months.
“Our mission is to bring local favourites to as many people as possible,” said Deliveroo’s Chief Business Officer, Carlo Mocci. “Drones could help us reach new customers and raise the bar on speed and service.”
Manna CEO Bobby Healy added: “Air delivery is fast, clean, and safe – perfect for modern logistics.”
Having already completed over 170,000 flights in the area, Manna holds full regulatory approval. Deliveroo is also eyeing expansion into the UK, welcoming the government’s recent £20m investment in drone innovation.
