Liteez, a dual-purpose meringue ‘kiss’ sweetener that melts in hot drinks and can also be enjoyed as an ultra-low calorie sweet treat, was launched by family-owned company, Lampados International Ltd, at the ISM show in Cologne earlier this year. The sweetener is egg-free, sugar-free, and vegan. Two Liteez contain about two calories, compared to 20 calories in one teaspoon of table sugar. It is plant-based, free from allergens such as eggs, gluten, lactose, or nuts, and contains only six simple ingredients. Liteez was developed in collaboration with Practical Innovation of Israel and uses a vegetable protein that has the ability to foam like eggs to help create the desired kiss texture and form. Sugar’s functionality is replaced with prebiotic fibres.
