Glass manufacturer, Beatson Clark welcomed a royal visitor to its plant in Rotherham, South Yorkshire at the beginning of September.
HRH Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO, toured the factory to see £10 million of recent investments, including a new white flint (clear glass) furnace which became fully operational in August.
The £5.4m furnace has a daily capacity of approximately 200 tonnes of glass and gives Beatson Clark the same size melting area of 70.6m² as the previous furnace.
Its improved design means greater efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions in line with new Government targets, and the new furnace utilises the flame length to burn more gas, reducing NOx emissions by over 20 per cent.
The furnace rebuild is just part of a major £10 million investment which Beatson Clark has made in plant and equipment at its Rotherham base this year.
